What auto expense detect does

Optional Android bookkeeping from payment alerts — not a bank feed, not SMS inbox access, and not a payment app.

Detect from bank alerts

When a debit SMS or UPI payment alert appears in your notification shade, PayYaar reads the amount and merchant — not your SMS inbox.

Suggest or auto-save

Get a prompt to add the expense, or turn on auto-save so detected debits are logged immediately and marked Needs review.

You verify later

Auto-saved expenses stay flagged until you check the amount and description. A reminder can nudge you if a few are still unverified.

You stay in control

Turn detect or auto-save off in Profile anytime. Pick Personal or an equal-split group as the default destination.

How it works

  1. Enable notification access

On Android, grant notification access so PayYaar can see bank debit alerts. PayYaar does not request SMS inbox permission.

  2. Choose detect or auto-save

Detect-only suggests expenses when a debit arrives. Auto-save writes them to your list and asks you to verify.

  3. Review and keep going

Open Needs review, confirm or edit the expense, and your tracker — and any savings goals — stay up to date.

Auto expense detect FAQ

What is auto expense detect?

On Android, PayYaar can read bank debit and UPI payment alerts from notification access and turn them into expense drafts. With auto-save on, those drafts are saved for you to verify. OTP, promotional, and non-debit messages are ignored.

Does PayYaar read my SMS inbox?

No. PayYaar uses Android notification access to read text shown in notifications. It does not request SMS inbox permission. You can disable the feature in Profile at any time.

Is every SMS turned into an expense?

No. PayYaar looks for debit and payment alerts with an amount. Promos, OTPs, credits, and messages that are not spending are skipped. Duplicates are ignored on your device.

What happens when auto-save is on?

Detected debit alerts are saved as expenses marked Needs review. You should verify the amount and description. Auto-save will not spend pcoin if you have used your monthly SMS detection quota — leftover alerts fall back to suggestions.

Which groups can auto-save into?

Personal by default, or a group that splits equally among all members. You pick the preferred group in Profile.
